As you know – I do a different theme on draft every month.
This month I am doing something different that I
have never done before for my draft theme:
It’s Clean Out The Fridge Month.
More than a few of you have asked what did I mean
‘Cleaning Out the Fridge’ listed in last month’s email.
The past six months or so have been a little slower than I
would like to admit. That being the case, I have more than a few
kegs of beer with 1/3 to 1/2 leftover from each of those months.
These kegs are taking up too much space in my walk-in refrigerator.
So, this month I am going to use them up. Listed below are the
beers that I will start with this month. As they are used up I will be
putting on more (other) beers to take their place including stouts,
barleywines, porters, IPS’s, Pilsner and more.
St. Patrick’s Day is always March 17th. This year March 17th is on a Sunday.
Since I am closed on Sundays I will be celebrating March 13th thru 16th
by having Guinness Stout, Harp Lager, Wexford Cream Ale, O’Hara’s
Irish Red and Stout as my Beers of the Week!
And……….Saturday March 23, 2024 is this year’s Orval Day.
This is the 9th Orval Day. Every year the brewery makes a donation
to a charity of their choosing from every Orval sold that day!
Orval Trappist Ale was the first Brett (sour) beer to come to America!
Here are the beers I am starting with:
PRIVATBRAUEREI GAFFEL – COLOGNE, NORTH THINE – WESTPHALIA,
GERMANY
GAFFEL KOLSCH ‘2023’
German Kolsch that is brewed according to the German Purity law of 1516.
Kolsch beers can only be brewed within the City of Cologne. Gaffel’s flavor
is derived from an ale yeast that is lagered (aged) in cold cellars; faintly fruity
with a crisp, hop finish with a hint of sweetness
KONIG-BRAUEREI-DURSBURG, NORTH RHINE-WESTPHALIA, GERMANY
KONIG PILSNER ‘2023’
German Pilsner – a traditional pilsner that has a slight floral and malt notes;
not too sweet – not too bitter
RUSSIAN RIVER BREWING COMPANY – SANTA ROSA, CA. U.S.A.
BLIND PIG IPA ‘2024’
IPA that is a West Coast Style – very hoppy, full bodied with notes of
citrus, pine and fruit; has a big bitter finish
RUSSIAN RIVER BREWING COMPANY – SANTA ROSA, CA. U.S.A.
MIND CIRCUS NEIPA ‘2024’
North East (Coast) Hazy IPA – it’s less hoppy that typical West Coast IPA’s;
has big tropical flavors with some citrus notes; mild bitterness on the finish;
oats were added to give this beer a softness on the finish
EL SEGUNDO BREWING COMPANY – EL SEGUNDO, CA. U.S.A.
OLD JETTY ‘2023’
Barleywine Style Ale that is aged in whiskey casks for 12 months,
very rich with flavors of malt, toffee, dried fruit with just a hint of hops
SIERRA NEVADA BREWING COMPANY – CHICO, CA. U.S.A.
NARWHAL IMPERIAL STOUT ‘2023’
Imperial Stout that is malt forward with notes of Baker’s Cocoa,
molasses, dark roasted coffee; brewed with Magnum and Challenger
hops and several different malts, chocolate, honey and roasted barley
HOP SAINT BREWING COMPANY – TORRANCE, CA. U.S.A.
CHOCOLATE TRIP PORTER ‘2023’
Porter brewed with cacao nibs from Equador and Perla Negra malt;
smooth, rich and decadent
